Restaurant Bak Kut Teh Tong San @ Batu 9, Cheras

Last Friday, my colleagues decided to have Bak Kut Teh as our TGIF lunch at Restaurant Bak Kut Teh Tong San which located in Batu 9, Cheras. We been there last three weeks ago and found that it's Bak Kut Teh and Braised Pork Leg both were surprisingly yummy with reasonable price charge.

Bak Kut Teh is a typical Malaysian food that popularly served. The name literally translates as "Meat Bone Tea", comprised of meaty pork ribs that long-stewed with soy sauce, spices, and Chinese medicinal herbs. Some of the herbs that go into the dish are cinnamon, ginseng, star anise, wolfberries, chinese foxglove and dried orange peel etc. Bak Kut Teh is usually eaten with rice.

Tauke who busy preparing the food.

Bak Kut Teh (RM11 one bowl / RM13 one person portion). Consists of generous amount of pork meat, meaty pork ribs, intestine, varieties of mushroom, tofu puffs and fuzuk in a complex broth of herbs and spices.

The broth was clear yet consists heavy taste of herbs and spices. Pork meat was tender, thick intestine was chewy and well processed while the golden yellow tofu puff was a delicious.

The portion given was generous and considered as 2 person portion if compared with other Bak Kut Teh shop I went before.

Ginger Wine Steamed Fish Hrad (RM 25). Tilapia fish head steamed with sweet ginger wine, topped with wolfberry, ginger and some herbs vege. The fish was fresh and we love the ginger wine, taste great especially drinking it while piping hot. But the ginger wine doesn't cover the muddy taste of Tilapia fish.

Braised Pork Knuckle (RM 13 per portion).  Generous portion of meaty pork knuckle in a herbs braised gravy. Pork knuckle was well cooked, the fats was chewy and melted in my mouth yet not greasy at all. While the lean pork meat was quite tender and absorbed the herbs essence when braising it. Yummy!

Vege (RM 8). Fresh, crunchy vege with slightly sweet and salty soy sauce, topped with fried chopped shallots.

Overall, we were satisfied with our Bak Kut Teh meal and the price charged was considered reasonable due to it's portion. We noticed that every table customers ordered steamed fish and some reviewed that it's must eat, perhaps we should order another type of sauce for our steamed fish next time.

Oh yea, not to forget the wholesale PAU SHOP which just right beside this restaurant! Distributing to many pau sellers. Their Char Siew Pau and Peanut Pau are both MUST EAT!

Update our last visit on 4th September'15. This time we ordered Jiong Jeng (Black bean sauce) for our steamed fish!

Steamed Tilapia Fish with Black Bean Sauce (RM 26). Tilapia fish was fresh, perfect matched with their homemade black bean sauce. Rich flavour black bean sauce was just nice salty and sweet, some garlic and bean taste. We thumb up for this sauce!
