慈园蔬菜料理坊 Restaurant Sayur-Sayuran Ci Yuan @ Bandar Puteri, Puchong

Yesterday night, my uncle bought us to a Ci Yuan Vegetarian Restaurant nearby IOI Mall, Puchong. He said this vegetarian restaurant is reasonably priced and delicious!

When enter into restaurant, it's decoration was nothing much, very easy and simple, clean and bright. We were there around 9pm and guess what, most of the tables still occupied.

We choose Set Meal  for 2 to 3 person since only 4 of us. The set meal coming with a compulsory vege and soup of the day. Can choose your own vege and cooking style.

The dishes were serving in a short moment, the power of speed. LOL

Soup of the day. Seaweed soup with golden mushroom, tomatoes, tofu and some vegetarian ingredients.

The soup with strong aromatic seaweed and it's sweet. Everything inside the soup taste harmony together.

Spicy Vege Curry Mutton. Strong, aromatic and smooth curry gravy with vegetarian mutton, potatoes, long bean and other vege. Kinda nice.

Thai Style Fish. Vegetarian fish which made of soybean and alike tofu, topping with sweet and sour Thai Style sauce. The fish is crispy outside and soft inside with soy bean fragrant. Delicious. I love this dish very much.

Extra charge for this Thai style fish because we upgrade from Salted egg fish fillet from the set menu.

Claypot fish fillet with yam. Soy bean curd with yam, cabbages, mushrooms etc. The yam slices was awesomely cooked, soft and fragrant. I would say this dish was a bit too sweet for my own preference, perhaps the sweetness was from generous amount of vege.

Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves. Stir fried fresh vege which do not have MSG added. Taste good when piping hot!

Overall, the service and food here was good with reasonable price charge. I would say price here was cheaper than Vegetarian restaurant I visited before.

乞丐鸡 Ban Heong Seng Restaurant @ Skudai, Johor Bahru

My friend claimed that we didn't experienced food that WAO us during Johor trip. Thus, under some unexpected searched, we found Ban Heong Seng Restaurant which located at Jalan Skudai, which is nearby Istana Bukit Serene, JB.

It's a single storey house in a housing area. The signboard was too small and we didn't notice it and passed by. Ended up with called the boss and found out that, it's just right behind of us. =.=

Ban Heong Seng Restaurant is famous with their Beggar Chicken, Country Fish and Winter Melon Soup.

We make a reservation before we were here. Their signature dishes such as Beggar Chicken & Duck, Winter Melon soup and Pu Fo Shou need at least 8 hours to prepare and cook. They only prepared 3 tables as per reservations they received that day. Private Kitchen feel. =)

Our menu - Beggar Chicken, Winter Melon Soup and Pu Fo Shou (Trotter)

Remember to call and make reservation at least 1 day in advance before you come to here!

The menu written at the back of name card.

We were welcomed by the friendly boss. While we were waiting, we inquire whether can go into the kitchen and discover the making process of Beggar Chicken. He said Sure! Why not?  LOL

The bed of white hot charcoal. The beggar chicken left here and bake for 8 hours.

Ready to dig up the Beggar chicken with a shovel and wheeled in a wheelbarrow, prepare to unwrap!

The process to crack open the clay with hammer. After removed the plastic and paper, the Beggar Chicken is ready to be eaten. See the essence of chicken and herbs!

Same process to crack open the clay with hammer to remove the plastic and paper, Pu Fo Shou (Trotter) is ready to be eaten. Smells so great!

Winter Melon Soup in progress

Steaming!

Beggar Chicken (RM 38). Aromatic herbal fragrance, succulent and juicy meaty chicken. We gently use our chopstick to pick the chicken and the flesh easily detached from bone. Herbs fully filled inside the chicken.

The nutritious, rich and herbal fragrance gravy was awesome!

Pu Fo Shou (Braised Trotter) (RM 35). So yummy! Big trotter which have perfect proportion of fats and lean meat. Flavorful and soft texture of lean meat while the fats was chewy and non greasy at all. Thumb up!

Da Lang! Melon Soup!

Winter Melon Soup (RM 25). Comes in a whole melon. Cooked until very soft and the whole melon can be eaten. The soup was very clear and sweet. Inside the soup has white fungus, red dates and wolfberry.

The cooked melon taste great eaten with Beggar Chicken/ Pu Fo Shou gravy. My favorite dish!

Stir Fried vege (RM 8). Homey style stir fried fresh vege. Awesome.

Our stomach was super duper full. Definitely worth to pay another visit here when visit Johor Bahru. Dishes were unique, healthy cook, delicious and without MSG. New experience and fun to eat here.

Samet Thai @ Kuchai Lama

This Friday, me and Kenny was headed to Kuchai Lama, planned to go Torazou Ramen, but Kenny claimed that the ramen we tried before was better than this restaurant. So, we walked around and found a signboard written Thai Kopitiam, sounds interesting. We decided to give a try!

We were there around 9pm and didn't notice their opening hour was till 10pm until the staff who passed us the menu told us they were having last call order. Well, can I take this as non welcoming greeting?

We ordered Somtam as starter, Tomyum soup, Belacan Fried Rice, Pork Leg Rice and Tub Tim Krab as desserts.

Tub Tim Krab (RM 6). A small cup of colorful red rubies in coconut milk was the first dish served on our table. The most reddish red rubies I even seen before I have to say, the entire coconut milk turned into pink when we mixed red rubies and ice...

The water chestnut was not nice at all as it's coated by mushy tapioca flour. While the sweeten coconut milk was too thick and sweet. The portion was too small with the price they charged.

Somtum (RM 6.90). Green papaya salad, refreshing and sour. The salad came with generous amount of shredded carrot, shredded green papaya, green beans, tomatoes and some peanuts.

The taste was okay but the proportion of ingredients was imbalance. I am not sure whether this is vegetarian somtum, as I didn't see any dried shrimp in the salad.

Tom Yum Soup w pork (RM 12.90). This Tom Yum soup was sour but non spicy. Generous portion of pork slices given in the soup.

It's not taste alike authentic Tomyum soup. But I would say this soup suitable for people who have lower tolerance with spicy food.

Pork Leg Rice (RM 9.90). We were WAO when we looked at it, but disappointing when eaten. This dish was served in non-warm condition, it's cold. =.=

Pork meat was too lean, it's dry and not juicy. Although generous amount of gravy and pork meat given, but the taste was not okay. The hard boiled egg was cold and really hard. The only thing we satisfied was the generous amount of vege.

Conclusion: Disappointing.

Belacan fried rice (RM 8.90). Kenny was disappointing with his fried rice. Non aromatic at all. The pork meat at side was cold and hard.

Chilli sauce. Sour and non spicy.

Lemongrass water (RM 3.50). We ordered Pandan Leaf water but we dunno why we served by lemongrass water. It's sweeten and barely can taste lemongrass. Just forget about it.

The table infront of the shop which selling some snacks and BBQ meat.

The service here was sucks. Staffs here were from Myanmar, while the boss and chef were from Thailand. Training and briefing the minimum level of service standard and manners was urge needed. Even there were still some customers sitting and eating, we don't mind if the staff came and asked us to pay at 9.40pm, but at least leave us to finish our food asap rather than kept on collected our empty plates and standing or sitting in front of us. A couple who came at 9.30pm was rejected by the staff because she said they were closing. =.=

Not to forget, once we stepped out of this restaurant around 10.10pm, the roller shutter door was immediately closed right behind of us.

Conclusion, I won't ever step into this restaurant again. Lousy food and very lousy service. To be frank, the food was totally a failure and barely can say that this is Thai food.

There were wide varieties of food and ingredients here compared to other similar buffet restaurants. Here they were providing Chinese Cuisine, Sushi, Deep Fried, BBQ, Seafood, Steamboat ingredients, Desserts, Ice cream and Drinks.

People started to flow in around 6.30pm and fully occupied around 7pm. Luckily came early and avoid the crowd from choosing seafood.

Fresh seafood

Seafood. Fresh little fishes!

Wide varieties of steamboat ingredients!

Marinated Lamb, Chicken, Pork and Beef steaks.

Pork skewer, Chicken satay and Otak-otak were available too!

Sushi and fruits!

Sauces

Woohoo.. One of the reason I love here, So many choices of drinks!

The food here were fresh and quality. Totally worth every penny you pay. No need to worry can't get the food you want because of the crowd as the staffs were constantly refilled the food.

What we thumbed up:

  • Pork skewers and satay. Well marinated and flavourful. Tender yet juicy. Remind that not to over cooked to avoid meat become dry.
  • Seafood. Fishes and shells. Fresh!
  • Marinated lamb, pork and chicken chop. Fresh, juicy and flavourful. The thickness was just alright.
  • Fruits was sweet and juicy, not plain tasteless like some other buffet restaurants. Herbal jelly was good too!

Not to forget Sugar Cane Juice and Soy Milk! AWESOME match when eating BBQ! Seldom see that buffet restaurant offering Sugar Cane juice!

We didn't manage to eat sushi and ice cream as our stomach were very full!

The ambiance here was pretty nice and relaxing. The lighting decoration was beautiful during night time. It's so windy on the day we pay our visit, feel like we are on vacation and having fresh seafood BBQ dinner beside the beach. Their open air concept was good to avoid hot and stuffy for a BBQ restaurant.

Will come back for another visit? Definitely yes. The price we pay here was same as other steamboat or BBQ restaurant but here was providing fresh and wide varieties of food. Non time limit is a plus point too if compare to other buffet restaurant. Take your time to BBQ, eat, drink and chit chat with your friends and family without rushing and counting the time left. =)
