MOO-KATA Steamboat & BBQ House @ Kuchai Lama Food Court

Last week, we gang of people were here to celebrate our colleagues birthday!

Moo Kata Steamboat & BBQ House is located inside Kuchai Lama Food Court, serves over 120 types of fresh seafood, skewers, meat, noodles, fried and cooked Chinese food, desserts, ice cream and fruits. Eat all you can without time limit for RM45 per person.

We choose open air seats to avoid hot and stuffy. With 3 different type of cooking ways between Charcoal BBQ, Sizzling Hot Plate and Steamboat, each person is entitled to choose one type according to your preference. For example, if 2 person, entitled for 2 type, extra charge RM5 if you want all 3 different type cooking way.

Worth mentioning that they are using charcoal to BBQ, sizzling and even steamboat. Besides, according to their staff, their steamboat pork bone soup is made of 210 kg pork bone and 170 liters of water.

Charcoal BBQ

Sizzling Plate

Steamboat pot

Assorted sticks of marinated (Honey, Curry, Black Pepper & Teriyaki) skewers of the choice chicken, pork, lamb and beef.

Marinated chicken, lamb, beef and pork slices. Not to forget their pandan chicken! It tastes real good!

Assorted shells

Assorted seafood. Clams, mussels, lala, bamboo clams, prawns, crabs etc.

Assorted fresh fish slices. Stringray taste soso.

Assorted fishballs, seafood tofu etc.

Fresh meat slices. Beside is butter and lard for BBQ and sizzling plate.

Curry fishball and herbal egg.

Fruits

Ice cream and durian desserts

Shaved ice!!! Favourite!

Iced ribena, lemon tea, teh tarik, coffee etc. Taste odds. Teh tarik was way too sweet.  =(

Sauces to choose from...

Pork bone soup & Clear Tomyum soup add on your own.

LET'S BEGIN THE FEAST!

BBQ skewer. Taste alright. Alike satay but it's not as juicy and perfect proportion as satay. SOSO.

BBQ prawns, seafoods and pandan chicken. I have to mention that I BBQ-ed their pandan chicken the most, it taste real good! Tender, juicy and fragrant with pandan flavour. Yum!

Sizzling prawn with butter. Fresh prawn!

\

Sizzling mussels, scallops and squids! Brilliant idea of removed the shells and sizzling those flesh directly!

I love and gonna miss this!

We didn't take much cooked food since they only served fried rice & noodles, curry chicken and fried stuffs. I would ignore this area because it ain't taste good.

Our overall conclusion:

  • Seafood. Wide varieties but freshness is not up to par.
  • Marinated skewers and meat slices. Prefer honey and black pepper flavour pork and lamb. Small slices, fresh but not juicy. Barely can see any fats on the meat, not OMPH.
  • Desserts. Taste alright. I love their smooth shaved ice!
  • Beverages. Definately a NONO. Most of the beverages taste odd, either too plain or sweet. We paid extra to get ourselves 100 PLUS, COLA and juices. =(

Service here was kinda helpful since we went on weekday and kinda empty. The ambiance here was normal and all of us were sweat and sticky although we opted open air seat. Much more prefer Happy City BBQ Steamboat Restaurant.

Will  come back for another visit? Maybe once in a blue moon.

Update about last week lunch at San Nae Deul Korean BBQ @ IKON Connaught. San Nae Deul is Korean BBQ Chain restaurant, it has branches in Solaris Dutamas, Setiawalk Puchong, Oasis Square PJ, One City Skypark etc.

San Nae Deul Korean BBQ is non halal with meat assortments of pork, beef and chicken, delivering a concept of diners can have BBQ and Korean delicacies such as kimchi jiggae, tteokbokki, fried rice/noodles, soups, pancakes, side dishes, and many more. Eat all you can within 2 hours, special promotion price Lunch Buffet at RM25(without BBQ) or RM35 (with BBQ) and Dinner Buffet at RM40.

Image copied from IKON Connaught website.

On your own Bibimbab. But not in hot stone bowl.

They were offering set lunch too if buffet ain't your choice. We choose Korean & BBQ Buffet and staff leaded us to another section for BBQ customers.

Reasonable choice of cooked Korean delicacies. Fried rice, Korean rice cake, pork belly slices cooked in Ssamjang sauce, deep fried stuffs etc.

Deep fried dumpling, smelts,nuggets

Favourite! Gyeranmari (Korean style omelette), Kimchi pancake, Vege pancake

Vege pancake. Vege coated in flour and egg and then pan fried with bit oil. It's chewy and generous portion of vege. Taste great eaten with bean paste, quite decent.

Kimchi pancake. Texture alike vege pancake despite it's pancake flour was mixing with kimchi. Taste ok. Personally I much more prefer vege pancake in terms of taste and chewy texture.

Deep fried stuffs which consists of turnips slices. It's cold, not crispy. Shredded turnips inside was too small slices and dry. Definately a NONO.

Normally when we go to Korean restaurant, refill side dishes is quite troublesome and some staffs even show their black face. Here, side dishes on your own! =D

One of the best Tteokbokki I ever had!! It's soft yet remaining chewy, their ssamjang sauce was nice.

DALANG!! BBQ area for customer who opted for BBQ buffet!

BBQ area

Raw marinated and non marinated Pork, Chicken, Beef and Squid. Pork belly slices my favorite!

Squids, crab meat sticks, onions and veges!

Doenjang (Bean paste), soy sauce, chili, garlic slices and salt.

BBQ tray. They placed a paper on the tray to avoid charred meat.

BBQ ing ... I have to highlight that their pork belly slices were sososo awesome, especially marinated one. Fragrant, crispy, juicy, flavorful and deliciously fats melted in mouth, sinfully delicious!

While their BBQ squid was fresh, juicy and chewy.

Not to forget their marinated pork chops, MMM HMMMMPP... Yum! Tender, juicy and flavourful! Thumb up!

Tteokbokki is a MUST! Their Kimchi was not fermented well, can see the green color leaf? While cooked pork slices was taste good.

Korean Style Omelet was awesome, it's tender and taste a bit sweet.

Deep Fried Smelts is nice. Ignore their deep fried dumpling if you don't wanna eat some cold and non crispy fried dumpling.

Remember to have Kimchi Soup before leaving! It's sour, slightly spicy and rich with Kimchi. Pretty nice!

Fruits and desserts. Below the standard of what a buffet restaurant should prepare. Watermelon, cherry tomatoes, jelly, soda biscuits and ice cream.

Beverages only provided plain water and tea... Extra charges for beverages inside the fridge. Their interior is quite comfy, so customers won't feel hot and stuffy.

Overall, we thumb up for their BBQ and average for cooked Korean delicacies.

The price charged was worthy if compare to other ala carte order Korean restaurant. We might pay another visit when craving for Korean BBQ, as we not really into desserts and beverages.

UPDATE ON MY VISIT ON 8TH OCT'15:

We pay a visit here again! Kenny the hungry one craved for BBQ. This time we were here for Dinner Buffet. The dinner price charged is RM40, which only cost RM5 more than Lunch buffet.

Pre-cooked delicacies and BBQ varieties have not much different with lunch buffet despite they were serving noodles and better choice of desserts.

Pork cooked in various type of Korean sauce.

Awww... they serving tofu and rice ball too. I love the tofu quite much, taste great. Remember to try out their rice ball, heat it on the pan and taste great!

Noodles

Side dishes on your own! Personally I love their kelp, kimchi and potato slices!

Korean style Peanuts and anchovies

Half way eating, I realised forget to take photo of my BBQ photo, too hungry! LOL. I have to highlight that the Korean Lady Boss was sososo friendly and helpful. She came to our table to help and explained the way to BBQ and eat.

Until yesterday, after the Korean lady boss explained, I just realised the garlic slices we used to wrap with meat and vege have to BBQ it, so it's much more flavourful. Not to forget the fried stuffs and pancake should reheat on the pan too! =D
