BreadFruits Cafe @ Taman Desa

**Nov'16: Click here to read my recent visit to Breadfruits @ Desa Sri Hartamas for yummy healthy dishes! 😁😇💓💓💓

Spend my quality afternoon time during Merdeka Day on BreadFruits Café @ Taman Desa.  It's a Whole Food/ Organic food seller/ Organic Café that serves natural healthy food. Wild honey seems like their main attraction according to the menu introduction. The shop design is simple, bright and nothing pretentious!

Awards/ Recognition for BreadFruits Café.

Cozy interior

Love this! Glass, tree, relax

Staff guided us to our table and handed us the menu.

We ordered StirFry Up & Smoked Salmon Breakfast Platter. Serving with Juice of the day and tea/coffee.

Americano. Aromatic coffee with bitter and sour. Do request organic brown sugar from staff.

Juice of the day. Banana with passion fruit. Freshly squeezed fruit juice, passion fruit sour taste at the first and banana sweet later. Refreshing!

StirFry Up (RM 27.80). Pork sausage/bacon, scrambled egg/sunny side up, sautéed mushroom, roasted cherry tomato, mashed potato, arugula & toast. Served with coffee/tea & juice of the day.

The pork sausage was juicy and crispy, juicy sautéed button mushroom was amazed me and scrambled egg was done to perfection. They do not have mashed potato on that day and replaced with a slice of avocado.

Smoked Salmon Breakfast Platter (RM 29.80). Coming with 2 slice of smoked salmon, scrambled egg, avocado & cherry tomato salad, lemon, arugula & sourdough. Served with juice of the day & coffee/tea. A delightful combination but nothing to shout about.

Having some chat and relax time with friends until evening and café hopping to Cosans Coffee. I am glad that they opened their branch at Taman Desa which much more convenient to visit for me compared to Desa Sri Hartamas.

I like BreadFruits Café which serving simple and genuine food by using locally sourced ingredients, feel safe to eat. While the price charged was considered as reasonable since beverages included and  price shown on the menu included GST. Well.. Good quality food comes with a price.

Restaurant Bak Kut Teh Tong San @ Batu 9, Cheras

Last Friday, my colleagues decided to have Bak Kut Teh as our TGIF lunch at Restaurant Bak Kut Teh Tong San which located in Batu 9, Cheras. We been there last three weeks ago and found that it's Bak Kut Teh and Braised Pork Leg both were surprisingly yummy with reasonable price charge.

Bak Kut Teh is a typical Malaysian food that popularly served. The name literally translates as "Meat Bone Tea", comprised of meaty pork ribs that long-stewed with soy sauce, spices, and Chinese medicinal herbs. Some of the herbs that go into the dish are cinnamon, ginseng, star anise, wolfberries, chinese foxglove and dried orange peel etc. Bak Kut Teh is usually eaten with rice.

Tauke who busy preparing the food.

Bak Kut Teh (RM11 one bowl / RM13 one person portion). Consists of generous amount of pork meat, meaty pork ribs, intestine, varieties of mushroom, tofu puffs and fuzuk in a complex broth of herbs and spices.

The broth was clear yet consists heavy taste of herbs and spices. Pork meat was tender, thick intestine was chewy and well processed while the golden yellow tofu puff was a delicious.

The portion given was generous and considered as 2 person portion if compared with other Bak Kut Teh shop I went before.

Ginger Wine Steamed Fish Hrad (RM 25). Tilapia fish head steamed with sweet ginger wine, topped with wolfberry, ginger and some herbs vege. The fish was fresh and we love the ginger wine, taste great especially drinking it while piping hot. But the ginger wine doesn't cover the muddy taste of Tilapia fish.

Braised Pork Knuckle (RM 13 per portion).  Generous portion of meaty pork knuckle in a herbs braised gravy. Pork knuckle was well cooked, the fats was chewy and melted in my mouth yet not greasy at all. While the lean pork meat was quite tender and absorbed the herbs essence when braising it. Yummy!

Vege (RM 8). Fresh, crunchy vege with slightly sweet and salty soy sauce, topped with fried chopped shallots.

Overall, we were satisfied with our Bak Kut Teh meal and the price charged was considered reasonable due to it's portion. We noticed that every table customers ordered steamed fish and some reviewed that it's must eat, perhaps we should order another type of sauce for our steamed fish next time.

Oh yea, not to forget the wholesale PAU SHOP which just right beside this restaurant! Distributing to many pau sellers. Their Char Siew Pau and Peanut Pau are both MUST EAT!

Update our last visit on 4th September'15. This time we ordered Jiong Jeng (Black bean sauce) for our steamed fish!

Steamed Tilapia Fish with Black Bean Sauce (RM 26). Tilapia fish was fresh, perfect matched with their homemade black bean sauce. Rich flavour black bean sauce was just nice salty and sweet, some garlic and bean taste. We thumb up for this sauce!

慈园蔬菜料理坊 Restaurant Sayur-Sayuran Ci Yuan @ Bandar Puteri, Puchong

Yesterday night, my uncle bought us to a Ci Yuan Vegetarian Restaurant nearby IOI Mall, Puchong. He said this vegetarian restaurant is reasonably priced and delicious!

When enter into restaurant, it's decoration was nothing much, very easy and simple, clean and bright. We were there around 9pm and guess what, most of the tables still occupied.

We choose Set Meal  for 2 to 3 person since only 4 of us. The set meal coming with a compulsory vege and soup of the day. Can choose your own vege and cooking style.

The dishes were serving in a short moment, the power of speed. LOL

Soup of the day. Seaweed soup with golden mushroom, tomatoes, tofu and some vegetarian ingredients.

The soup with strong aromatic seaweed and it's sweet. Everything inside the soup taste harmony together.

Spicy Vege Curry Mutton. Strong, aromatic and smooth curry gravy with vegetarian mutton, potatoes, long bean and other vege. Kinda nice.

Thai Style Fish. Vegetarian fish which made of soybean and alike tofu, topping with sweet and sour Thai Style sauce. The fish is crispy outside and soft inside with soy bean fragrant. Delicious. I love this dish very much.

Extra charge for this Thai style fish because we upgrade from Salted egg fish fillet from the set menu.

Claypot fish fillet with yam. Soy bean curd with yam, cabbages, mushrooms etc. The yam slices was awesomely cooked, soft and fragrant. I would say this dish was a bit too sweet for my own preference, perhaps the sweetness was from generous amount of vege.

Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves. Stir fried fresh vege which do not have MSG added. Taste good when piping hot!

Overall, the service and food here was good with reasonable price charge. I would say price here was cheaper than Vegetarian restaurant I visited before.

乞丐鸡 Ban Heong Seng Restaurant @ Skudai, Johor Bahru

My friend claimed that we didn't experienced food that WAO us during Johor trip. Thus, under some unexpected searched, we found Ban Heong Seng Restaurant which located at Jalan Skudai, which is nearby Istana Bukit Serene, JB.

It's a single storey house in a housing area. The signboard was too small and we didn't notice it and passed by. Ended up with called the boss and found out that, it's just right behind of us. =.=

Ban Heong Seng Restaurant is famous with their Beggar Chicken, Country Fish and Winter Melon Soup.

We make a reservation before we were here. Their signature dishes such as Beggar Chicken & Duck, Winter Melon soup and Pu Fo Shou need at least 8 hours to prepare and cook. They only prepared 3 tables as per reservations they received that day. Private Kitchen feel. =)

Our menu - Beggar Chicken, Winter Melon Soup and Pu Fo Shou (Trotter)

Remember to call and make reservation at least 1 day in advance before you come to here!

The menu written at the back of name card.

We were welcomed by the friendly boss. While we were waiting, we inquire whether can go into the kitchen and discover the making process of Beggar Chicken. He said Sure! Why not?  LOL

The bed of white hot charcoal. The beggar chicken left here and bake for 8 hours.

Ready to dig up the Beggar chicken with a shovel and wheeled in a wheelbarrow, prepare to unwrap!

The process to crack open the clay with hammer. After removed the plastic and paper, the Beggar Chicken is ready to be eaten. See the essence of chicken and herbs!

Same process to crack open the clay with hammer to remove the plastic and paper, Pu Fo Shou (Trotter) is ready to be eaten. Smells so great!

Winter Melon Soup in progress

Steaming!

Beggar Chicken (RM 38). Aromatic herbal fragrance, succulent and juicy meaty chicken. We gently use our chopstick to pick the chicken and the flesh easily detached from bone. Herbs fully filled inside the chicken.

The nutritious, rich and herbal fragrance gravy was awesome!

Pu Fo Shou (Braised Trotter) (RM 35). So yummy! Big trotter which have perfect proportion of fats and lean meat. Flavorful and soft texture of lean meat while the fats was chewy and non greasy at all. Thumb up!

Da Lang! Melon Soup!

Winter Melon Soup (RM 25). Comes in a whole melon. Cooked until very soft and the whole melon can be eaten. The soup was very clear and sweet. Inside the soup has white fungus, red dates and wolfberry.

The cooked melon taste great eaten with Beggar Chicken/ Pu Fo Shou gravy. My favorite dish!

Stir Fried vege (RM 8). Homey style stir fried fresh vege. Awesome.

Our stomach was super duper full. Definitely worth to pay another visit here when visit Johor Bahru. Dishes were unique, healthy cook, delicious and without MSG. New experience and fun to eat here.
