Batu 11 Pan Mee, Belakong, Cheras, KL

Pan Mee is a Hakka-style noodle, originating from Malaysia, which can easily be found at every hawker stall, specialty shops and restaurant. Traditionally, the dough is hand-kneaded and torn into smaller pieces of broad, flat, non-uniformly shaped dough. Nowadays, the dough can be kneaded using machine into flat strips of noodle - thick or thin. Pan mee is typically served in soup, together with fried anchovies, minced pork, mushrooms, and a leafy vegetable such as sweet potato leaves or spinach. It can also be served dry with a thick black soya sauce.

Despite carbohydrate and calories, I am Pan Mee super fans, especially the broad, flat, non-uniformly shaped hand-torn pieces served in soup  - "Mee hoon kueh" 面粉粿

Recently, my colleague brought me to one of the famous among locals pan mee stall in Cheras, located at Batu 11, Belakong. I would say this stall is a hidden gem!

I ordered mee hoon kueh (RM5.50). Generous portion of mee hoon kueh served in NO MSG ADDED clear soup and topped with generous portion of spinach, pork slices, yummy crispy deep fried anchovies and perfectly fried shallots. Their Mee hoon kueh is prefect in thickness for me liking and cooked perfectly springy.

Smooth, perfect in thickness and springy mee hoon kueh is irresistible.

My colleague ordered thick noodles. We added on a piece of homemade dumpling (RM1.20 per piece) for each bowl of noodles.

Smooth, springy thick cutted pan mee.

We decided to add on deep fried dumpling (RM1.20 per piece). Their dumpling fillings: Minced pork & yam bean (Saa Gok). It's so crispy! Yum!

Homemade chili sauce is limau added sambal belacan.

They are selling pan mee outside their house.

It's opposite Tadika Mesra Ilmu, behind the shop row/ Ambank.

Currently, Batu 11 Pan Mee is my favourite mee hoon kueh place. Soup is clear and I asked for extra bowl of soup on my 2nd visit >.< I finished my meal without feeling thirsty.

This place definitely worth a try for pan mee lover.

Cafe Studio @ The Strand Kota Damansara - Part 2 Amazing Coffee Brewing Experience

With high end cafe on the rise, our coffee option has expanded. In Cafe Studio, the question is no longer what type of coffee you want but how you want your coffee made. Between Royal Balancing Siphon, Vacuum Coffee, Irish Coffee, French Press & Dripping Coffee, getting a cup of coffee has become more interesting.

Coffee Maker Equipment Lab

You can choose in what way you want your coffee made and try it yourselves! Or asking for staff assistance.

1. Royal Balancing Siphon

Fashionable goldsmith balancing siphon, origin from Europe since early 1840's.

The coffee from a balancing siphon can best be described as “crystal clear”, with great purity of flavor and aroma and no bitterness added by the brewing process.

Two chambers arranged side by side on a balance-like device, with a counterweight attached to the heated chamber. When the vapor has forced the hot boiling water out, the counterweight activates a spring-loaded which smothers the flame and allows the initial chamber to cool down thus lowering pressure and causing the brewed coffee to seep in.

Boiling water is pushed through the metal pipet.

The beauty of Balancing Siphon is the coffee is brewed by extended contact with water at exactly right brewing temperature and the the coffee is immediately separated from the ground.

The video of barista demonstrating the steps of Balancing Siphon

2. Irish Coffee

Irish coffee is a cocktail consisting hot coffee, Irish whiskey and brown sugar. Stirred and topped with whipped cream. The coffee is drunk through the cream.

Cafe studio's version of Irish Coffee excluding Irish whiskey because HALAL

Irish coffee maker

I am quite addicted to this. It's aromatic and sweet, credit to whipped cream. I wondering if it's taste similar to Harry Potter's Butter Beer?? LOL

The video of barista showing us how Irish Coffee is made.

3. Vacuum Coffee

A vacuum coffee maker brews coffee using 2 chambers where vapor pressure and vacuum produce coffee.

Heating water until expansion forces contents through a narrow tube into upper vessel containing coffee grounds with principle of vacuum.

When the coffee has finished brewing, the heat is removed. The pressure in the bottom vessel drops and the force of gravity and atmospheric pressure push the water down into the lower vessel, ending brewing.

Just witnessing the process for the first time is hard to describe. Like how cool it is the little experiments in science lab during secondary school time.

Vacuum coffee process by their barista.

4. Drip Brewing

The last coffee making we tried out is Drip Brewing. We moved to a specialist dripping coffee designed round table.

Pouring hot water over ground coffee contained in a filter.

Hot water seeps through the ground coffee, absorbing it's oil and essences, then passed through the bottom of the filter.

Take note for the volume of hot water you pouring to avoid bland or lacking in flavor.

Finally, it's my time to brew coffee!

Irish coffee matching with sinfully delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter mille crepes is heaven! =)))

Choose your preference coffee bean and each type of coffee brewing cost RM16.50

It's a totally new experience and knowledge for us about coffee brewing. Thanks to their barista who's patient enough to explain and show us the proper way of different type coffee making! =)

Brewing coffee @ Cafe Studio, a cozy yet artful space is totally enjoyable. Cafe Studio is a perfect place for coffee lover i would say.
