BKK Trip Part 4 - Breakfast Spots @ Pratunam, Bangkok

A quality and yummy breakfast to kick start the day, especially when having a trip, is awesome. The following local breakfast spots was discovered during my last BKK Trip, hopefully you guys will like it as well! ;)

1. The alley beside Pratunam Morning Market, beside Citin Pratunam Hotel

There's many small food stalls inside this alley selling varieties of noodles, mixed rice, pork knuckle rice, traditional kuih and drinks.

We opted a open air noodles stall. Kenny choose Tomyum Noodles while I ordered Chicken Soup Rice Noodles. On the table, there's chilli flakes, peanut, sugar, chilli etc for customer own seasoning.

Tomyum Soup Noodles (40THB). It's non spicy, taste sour. Chicken slices was tender. Taste ordinary.

Chicken Soup Rice Noodles (40THB). Chicken soup with rice noodles, drumstick, vege and fried shallots. Soup was spicy and strong black pepper taste. Chicken drumstick was tender and smooth rice noodles. Thumb up.

2. Food street in front of Pantip Plaza (Closed)

This food street was just right infront A&W Pantip Plaza, beside Platinum Fashion Mall. Stall here were mainly selling street foods - BBQ Pork, Deep fried stuffs, noodles, Pork knuckle rice, fruits etc. Customer here were mainly local take away. Stalls here were in rotation of morning till afternoon and night shift.

Pork Knuckle Rice (60THB). Rice served with pork knuckle, vege, egg and preserved vege. The rice texture and flavour was enriched with the brown sauce, pork knuckle meat was tender and fats melted in my mouth.. But the egg was...overcooked.

Preserved vege is a must to pork knuckle rice, yum! Preserved vege, chilli, onion and Thai Chilli sauce were placing in front of the stall, do add on our own. ;)

Note that you have to stand and eat this piping hot rice or take away because there's no table and chair provided. Come earlier ( before 11am) to avoid disappointment because this is selling fast.

BBQ Pork (10THB). THE BEST BBQ PORK I EVER ATE IN BKK. Tender, juicy, perfect proportion of fats and meat and the sauce was just nice! Strongly recommended.

3. The alley beside Platinum Fashion Mall ( Opposite Khao Tha-Lu Champorn Coffee Shop)

Read my updated detailed post (2017) here

Soft Drinks served with cute small cup

Pork Knuckle Rice ( 60THB ). Generous amount of pork knuckle on top of the rice with fragrant brown sauce. Pork knuckle meat was juicy, tender and flavorful, served with soft boiled braised duck egg was a plus point.
This stall doesn't provide preserved vege, but still I am much more prefer this stall. The braised duck egg was super tasty! We actually came back to this stall several days for this rice as our breakfast or brunch! LOL

Khao Tha-Lu - Green Tea Latte (79 THB)

Kenny bought Green Tea Latte from the small café opposite this little stall. Taste awesome. Well balanced of green tea and milk and not too sweet. It's a pleasure to have cold drinks during super hot weather in BKK!

4. Alley opposite famous Pratunam Wan Tan Noodles

This alley was located opposite the famous Pratunam Wan Tan Noodles shop / First Hotel, beside 7-11. You will see a fried banana stall outside of this alley. Stalls in this food alley was selling varieties of noodles, mixed rice, porridge, pork knuckle rice and drinks.

Pork noodles ( 40 THB). Glass noodles soup with strong spicy pepper taste, served with fresh and tender pork and pork blood cubes. Nice!

WanTan Noodles (50 THB). Springy egg noodles topping with Char Siu, wonton, chilli and chilli flakes. Taste ordinary.

Thai Tea & Thai Milk Tea ( 25 THB each). Taste below average. Too sweet and milky for my own preference. Barely can taste the tea flavour.

During this trip, Pork Knuckle Rice was my favourite breakfast feast in BKK. I know it's a heavy meal in the morning, but who cares! It's so yummy and fuelled up my energy to explore BKK! Do drop your comment to recommend your prefer breakfast spot in BKK! ;)

BKK Trip Part 3 - After You @ Siam Paragon

One of the MUST TRY dessert in BKK! After You is well known for their irresistible desserts, especially their signature desserts - Shibuya Honey Toast!

We were on waiting list although we paid our visit on weekday non peak hour. Around 20 mins we walked here and there, finally it's our turn! The staff put a number card on our table while we headed to counter order our desserts! We ordered their signature desserts - Shibuya Honey Toast and a cup of Earl Grey w Jelly.

 Honey!

 Weeeee....

The toast was coming with a small jug of golden brown honey. We poured the honey on the toast and it's so yum! Perfect toast which crispy outside and fragrant buttery, fluffy inside, perfectly match with honey. Upgrade your taste buds when eating the honey toast together with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream! Sinfully delicious! I can eat this everyday without calculating calories! ;D

*Note that they were providing FOC earl grey tea, in case you don't feel like to order their drinks.

BKK Trip Part 2 - Somtam Nua @ Siam Square Soi 5

Had our second day brunch at Somtam Nua at Siam Square Soi 5. We came here with high expectation as many bloggers highly recommended this restaurant for their Fried Chicken and Somtam(Papaya Salad).

There's no need to queue and plenty of empty tables when we were there. We pointed at the menu to make order and inquiry because some of their staffs can't understand English.

 Menu

Sticky Rice (35 THB each). Ordinary.

Fried Chicken (150 THB). Ordinary fried chicken wings topping with some fried chopped garlic and spring onions. Most of the reviews and bloggers claimed that it's a must order when pay visit here. When our first bite on it, we were totally disappointed, perhaps our expectation were too high. Indeed the fried chicken was juicy and crispy, but it taste ordinary, KL night market fried chicken can be even better than this. Totally overrated and overpriced. I will say this dish can try once if you never been here before.

Somtam with Salted Crab (80 THB). Taste okay. Mild, sweet and sour. Salted crab was fresh. Personally I think that Platinum Mall food court one taste better than this. Second disappointment that hit us.

Crispy Fried Fish (105 THB). Finally, this dish delighted us! Well fried crispy fish, fresh and topping with sweet and sour Thai sauce, peanuts, onions etc. Flavorful and taste authentically local Thai food. Thumb up.

Notheast Style Spicy Soup with Pork Bone (120 THB). Sour, spicy yet the soup taste clear. Generous amount of pork inside the soup. Nice!

Honey Lemon and Thai Milk Tea (75 THB each). Not too sweet, everything goes well. I like.

Overall, it's an ordinary meal which costed us around 950 THB. Perhaps as some local said, when the restaurant became famous and the quality dropped or flavour different from the starting point.

Somtam Nua is locate directly opposite Siam Paragon, it's in Siam Square area. If you take BTS, exit at Siam Station. U would see Somtam Nua sign board when you look at the left side/opposite side of Siam Paragon at platform. If you worry can't find here, that's a branch in Siam Center, 4th floor.

Walked around to explore Siam Square, found this shop that specialist selling Fujifilm Instax Camera in a variety of designs!

Cute...!

BKK Trip Part 1

Finally I have time to blog about my throwback Bangkok Trip after tidy all the pictures. I have to say that i will update my BKK trip post again when I pay another visit to BKK on this year end. ;)

Reach KLIA 2 early in the morning

 Ready to depart!

 Reach our destination - BKK!

We reached Don Mueang Airport around 9.30am. We took cab outside the airport and headed to our hotel in Pratunam - Citin Hotel. The traffic from airport to Pratunam was okay that day. When we reached Pratunam, 7-11 shop can be found everywhere, what I mean everywhere is, you can find 2 to 3 same 7-11 shop on a same row of shoplot. Since we were starving, we went into 7-11 to buy the hot dog that Kenny strongly recommended.

Footlong hot dog (23 THB). We opted for cheese and ori flavour, which was really good. It's springy and taste good. Especially the cheesy flavour one, there's 3 type of cheese cube inside, superb!

We bought our DTAC Happy Tourist Sim Card at 7-11 too, only cost 299 THB for UNLIMITED data and 100Baht free call for 7 days. You have to setup the SIM CARD on your own, just follow the instruction and it can be easily done.

This Barbeque stall was on the street outside our hotel.

Barbeque pork and chicken (10 THB). The pork was tender, juicy, flavourful and the fats was melted in my mouth.

As we checked in our hotel was around 11.30am. The Citin Hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. After we look around our room and put our luggage..

And HERE WE GO.. explore BKK!

12.30pm - Food Court at Platinum Mall

We walked around Pratunam Market and Platinum Mall. We decided to treat our stomach first before start our shopping war. There's some good review about Platinum Mall food court, thus we decided to have our lunch here!

The food center was located at 6th floor. Get yourselves a Reload card from counter and pass the card to the stall when buy food.

Got myself a yakult drinks from 7-11 stall. 0% sugar. 22 THB

Salted egg Somtam. 60 THB. Taste good. It's refreshing, sour and salty. Explosive and rich flavour in a dish. The cabbage and cucumber was placed infront of the stall, add on your own.

Kuay Chap. 50 THB. Flat white square rice noodles which some rolled like a thick straw when it's cooked. The soup taste alike Bak Kut Teh, strong Chinese herbal aroma soup. Inside the soup there's some fried pork, pork knuckles slices, intestines, pork skin and fried tofu skin. Thumb up!

3pm - Siam Center, Siam Paragon & Siam Square

There's many fancy shops and restaurants here. But what caught my attention and makes me came back here everyday was Dairy Queen. It's ice cream was smooth, not too sweet, solid and slightly salty. BIG LOVE.

Vanilla (15 THB), Chocolate Dip (20 THB)

7pm - Street food outside Citin Hotel

 Pad Thai (40 THB)

 Pad Thai WIP

Da lang... Dinner for two. Kenny was starved after long hour walked! We bought :

Salt crusted grilled fish w lemongrass (100 THB). Thumb up. Juicy, fresh and taste great even without any sauce. There's green chilli sauce provided, sour but not spicy.

Pad Thai (40 THB). Stir fried Siam Meehon with vege, peanut, tauge, egg and meat. Taste a bit sweet. Didn't managed to finish it as it's taste was quite different from our preference taste.

Stir fried minced pork w Thai Basil rice, Fried pork w egg rice (40 THB each). Fried minced pork w Thai Basil rice was ordinary, didn't WAO us. While the fried pork w egg rice taste below average, the fried pork was not crispy at all. Worth to mentioned that their Thai rice was much more fragrant than Malaysia's rice.

Omelette (30 THB). Fried egg with chicken slice. Well fried, fragrant and tender.

Ham croissant and sausages from 7-11 again.

We succeeded to finish all the food, mostly Kenny the Champion sapu all, perhaps it's our 1st day in BKK and want to get try on everything.

8.30pm - Palladium Mall Night Street Market

After this, we explored Pratunam Night Market and found what they selling were very normal designed shirt and some Batik dress. Thus, we headed to Palladium Mall Night Street Market.

Palladium Mall Night Street Market is a small street market located outside Palladium Mall, opposite Pratunam Market. The street market fully open around 8pm and stay until 12am.

Most of the stalls here was selling hand craft, women accessories, personal designed shirts and shoes, clothes and food. The main intention we were here was because of the DIY PVC leather for passport holder and notebook.

Most busy stall on the street market. Selling DIY PVC Notebook, Ipad cover, passport holder etc.

DIY T Shirt

Time to go back hotel and rest. Prepare for Day 2 explorer.
